Paul is head of Burr & Forman's Tort Insurance & Products practice group (TIPS). His practice primarily focuses on mass tort and complex litigation with particular emphasis on product liability litigation. He serves as a National Trial Counsel and as Regional Counsel for defendants in mass tort litigation. His experience also includes complex commercial cases, product recalls, personal injury, insurance coverage disputes, medical device litigation, FELA and ERISA litigation. Chambers USA, the highly regarded legal directory that is based upon actual client interviews, has listed Paul as a “Leader in the Field” since 2008 in the area of commercial litigation. Additionally, Paul is listed in The Best Lawyers in America under the areas of Mass Torts, Products Liability and Commercial Litigation. He is also listed as an Alabama Super Lawyer in the areas of Class Actions/Mass Torts and Personal Injury Defense: Products. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Litigation, Tort and Insurance Practice Committee and Trial Practice Committee). He also belongs to the Alabama State Bar, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute (Toxic Torts Environmental Litigation Committee) and the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). Paul is a member of the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a speaker at national litigation seminars and has published articles in the area of toxic torts and trial practice. He was employed as a chemist by an international petro-chemical company before attending law school. A 1984 graduate of Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Paul served on the Moot Court Board and was selected to the Order of the Barristers. He was also Captain of the Jessup Competition Moot Court Team. He received his B.A. in Natural Sciences (with emphasis on chemistry and biology) from the University of South Florida.
