Member Bio

Upon graduation from Marquette University Law School in 1989, Matt worked for a large law firm in Wausau, Wisconsin for seven years. In that capacity, Matt’s practice involved primarily insurance defense, product liability, medical malpractice, employment and commercial litigation. In 1997, Matt teamed up with another young litigation attorney to establish their own firm, Strasser & Yde, S.C. Matt is the President of Strasser & Yde, S.C., which has offices in Wausau and Manitowish Waters. Matt’s involvement with DRI opened his eyes to the realities of the changing insurance industry. During the past five years, he has focused his client development efforts on expanding his civil litigation practice in the commercial, construction, real estate, probate, municipal, and employment areas.

Matt has successfully litigated thousands of cases in state and federal courts, including hundreds of jury trials, court trials, arbitrations and administrative hearings. He has had the privilege of presenting oral arguments to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Matt has been a member of DRI and the Wisconsin Defense Counsel (WDC) since 1989. He served as a WDC Board Member from 2006 until his appointment as the DRI State Representative in 2010. Matt is currently serving a three year term as a DRI Board Member and the North Central Regional Director. As the North Central Regional Director, Matt is responsible for assisting and coordinating activities between DRI and the state defense organizations in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. He is also a board liaison to the Worker's Compensation Committee. Matt has presented at several state and DRI regional meetings, including a presentation on “The Disappearing Insurance Defense Attorney,” a controversial topic that interests many DRI members. He currently serves on the DRI Law Practice Management Steering Committee, and is a member of the Law Practice Management, Worker's Compensation and Trial Tactics Committees.

Matt has held several leadership positions in the Wausau area. In 1989, he was involved in organizing the Wausau Pop Warner Youth Football League. He was a coach and served on the board for many years. Matt was part of a group that was formed to address increasing teen issues that resulted in the creation of the Wausau Boys and Girls Club. He served as President of the Wausau Boys and Girls Club Board and Chairman of the Building Construction Committee. More recently, Matt was involved in the formation of IDEA Charter School, a project based public school. He has served on the board since its inception five years ago, and his term recently ended as President.
