Barbara A. O’Connell is a partner with Sweeney & Sheehan PC in Philadelphia where she heads the Employment Practices Group. Her practice focuses on advising employers in all aspects of employee management and litigation. This includes negligent hiring, wrongful discharge, civil rights, ERISA and employment discrimination cases. This included defending a widely-publicized jury trial involving a law firm accused of discriminating against a lawyer who had AIDS (similar to the claim depicted in the movie, Philadelphia. Ms. O’Connell has also defended product liability, mass torts and general and professional negligence cases.

Ms. O'Connell is the immediate past chair of the DRI Employment Law Committee and has had the opportunity to publish and lecture on Employment Law topics for DRI and many other professional organizations and clients throughout the country.
She has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer 4 out of the 5 last years and was honored as a Top Woman Lawyer in the Northeast by Arrive Magazine.
