Larry Kristinik is a partner with the law firm of Nelson Mullins in its Columbia, South Carolina office. He is the Chair of the firm's insurance industry practice group and is the former Chair of the insurance practice group for the American Law Firm Association. He is active in the leadership of the DRI Life Health and Disability Committee, and he is a frequent speaker at conferences sponsored by DRI, the ECC, the American Conference Institute, and the American Law Firm Association. He is also a member of the Association of Life Insurance Counsel. Larry's practice focuses on the defense of life and disability insurers against claims of bad faith refusal to pay benefits and in the prosecution of rescission claims based on misrepresentations in applications. He has experience litigating claims related to suicide exclusions, mental disorder limitations, accidental death policies, beneficiary issues, lack of insurable interest, suitability of annuities and variable products, lapsed policies, conditional receipts, and agent misconduct. He has defended insurers in class actions, FINRA arbitrations (for broker dealer subsidiaries), and often is called upon to provide pre-decision claims advice.
