Karen is a very experienced trial lawyer who has litigated a multitude of complex and highly technical cases and has maintained an exceptional trial record. Karen obtained a defense verdict after a three month class action trial involving claims in excess of $300,000,000.00. Her wide range of experience includes lead counsel in over 50 successful jury trials, many arbitrations and appellate arguments in varied legal areas. Her appellate practice has resulted in numerous published and unpublished appellate opinions from the Colorado Court of Appeals, Colorado Supreme Court and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Karen has practiced civil defense litigation since 1987. Karen's trial work has included commercial litigation, professional liability, premises liability, personal injury, construction, products liability, environmental, toxic torts, employment, civil rights, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith and general tort law. She has also served as an arbitrator in numerous personal injury and contract arbitrations and has presented various educational seminars in many areas of the law, including how to litigate class action lawsuits in Colorado.

Karen is currently the DRI State Representative for Colorado. She is an active member of ABOTA, the Chair of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations Joint Judicial Task Force, a fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation, and is a current member of the Denver, Colorado, Arapahoe and American Bar Associations. Ms. Wheeler is a former President of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association and currently is a Director on the board of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association.

Karen has devoted her life to maintaining work/life balance. Ms. Wheeler is the mother of three boys, Jack, Andy and Joe, and the wife of Eric Wheeler. She has always actively participated with the family and the children’s many varied activities including acting as Football Mom for the Littleton High School Football team for 3 years and volunteering with the PTO. She continues to maintain active involvement in many philanthropic organizations in Colorado. Her involvement in philanthropy earned her the Denver Bar Association's Volunteer of the Year Award.
