Emily G. Coughlin, Esq. is a Past President of DRI. She is the founding partner of the firm of Coughlin Betke LLP. In the past, Emily has been on the DRI Board of Directors, Past Membership Chair of DRI, and a Past DRI State Representative for Massachuetts. She is also a Past President of the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association and has been on its board of directors and held various officer’s positions since 2002. She tries cases and handles appeals in all State and Federal Courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Emily’s practice concentration includes over 25 years of broad-ranging civil litigation experience representing businesses and insurers in construction-related litigation, premises litigation, products liability litigation, and professional liability litigation. Emily also has an established and extensive expertise in risk allocation and avoidance in construction matters, including issues involving additional insureds and indemnification. She has given numerous seminars to the insurance industry on handling construction-related accidents, the allocation and avoidance of risk in construction litigation, and the intricacies of additional insured and contractual indemnity as they relate to the construction industry. Emily is also an active member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, and the American and Massachusetts Bar Associations. She is also honored to have just been selected to serve as faculty for the 2015 IADC Trial Academy.
