Kimberly A. Ross is a Partner at Ford & Harrison, LLP. Kimberly's practice is concentrated in the area of Employment Law. Kimberly's Employment practice includes experience in claims involving harassment and discrimination under federal and state laws, wage and hour claims, general employment practices and common law torts such as negligent hiring and retention, retaliatory discharge and defamation. In addition, she also has experience in tort litigation, including the defense of claims arising out of construction accidents, trucking and other vehicular accidents, premises liability and product liability.
Kimberly is a member of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Women's Bar Association of Illinois, and Decalogue Society of Lawyers. She currently serves on the DRI Employment Law Steering Committee. Kimberly previously served on the editorial staff of the IDC Quarterly, including a stint as its Editor in Chief (2007-2008). She is a frequent contributor to and columnist for that publication. Monograph articles Include "Sexual Harassment: A Review of Current Legal and Practical Issues" (IDC Quarterly, 1999) and "Critical Issues Under the Fair Labor Standards Act" (IDC Quarterly 2003).
A graduate of DePaul University College of Law (1996) and the University of Michigan (1992), Kimberly was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1996. She was also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois and is a member of its Trial Bar.
In addition to her litigation practice, Kimberly frequently conducts seminars for clients in the area of employment law, including harassment and discrimination under Title VII (race, gender, sex, religion and national origin discrimination and harassment); the Age Discrimination in Employment Act; the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Illinois Human Rights Act. She also counsels clients on general employment policies and practices, including reductions in force, hiring, performance evaluations, disciplining, conducting investigations and terminations.
Kimberly drafts employee handbooks and other policies in addition to drafting and reviewing employment contracts and other agreements between employers and their employees. She counsels clients on issues such as proper classification of employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act and other matters pertaining to maintaining proper personnel files. She handles cases in the state and federal courts as well as for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Illinois Department of Human Rights, Cook County Commission on Human Rights, Chicago Commission on Human Relations, the Illinois Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, and numerous other local municipal agencies.
