Jody C. Corbett has been practicing law in Phoenix, Arizona since 2000. She has successfully obtained numerous dismissals and summary judgments in state, federal, and tribal courts in favor of governmental entity and governmental employee defendants in civil rights pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and other general tort actions including personal injury and intentional torts. She also has experience in contract law, insurance, and collections, including garnishment actions. She has also obtained favorable results for clients at trial, arbitrations and settlement conferences. Ms. Corbett also has extensive experience representing clients in state, federal, and tribal appellate courts regarding numerous issues some of which include jurisdiction, immunity, proper jural entities, and res judicata.
Ms. Corbett also has experience representing clients in general contract and insurance contract disputes involving numerous states’ laws and federal law, including pre-litigation interpretation and opinions regarding contracts as well as litigation in state and federal court regarding contracts.
Ms. Corbett received her B.A. in Humanities and English, magna cum laude with Honors, from Brigham Young University in 1996. She earned her J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1999. During law school she served as the Senior Managing Editor of the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law. Following law school, she completed a one-year clerkship with the Honorable William F. Garbarino of the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One.
Ms. Corbett is a member of the Arizona State Bar Association, the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, DRI, Arizona Women Lawyers Association, and the J. Rueben Clark Law Society. Ms. Corbett is a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Courts. She is active in DRI and currently serves on the Governmental Liability Steering Committee and the SLC Engagement Committee, and is a National Director on the DRI Board of Directors.
