Dan graduated with distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997. During law school Dan served as an extern for United States District Judge Patrick A. Conmy. After graduating from law school, Dan worked as a law clerk for Chief Justice Gerald W. VandeWalle of the North Dakota Supreme Court.
He is engaged in an active litigation practice, with particular interest in insurance defense, insurance coverage, trucking and transportation law, business litigation, personal injury and Indian law.
Dan was the tenth member of his family admitted to the Bar in North Dakota. He is licensed to practice in the state courts of North Dakota and Minnesota and the Federal District Court of North Dakota. He is also licensed to practice before the tribal courts of the Spirit Lake Nation and Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
Dan is Chairman of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court. He is also Chairman of the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation. Dan serves on the Board of Governors of the North Dakota Defense Lawyers Association and is an Elected Member of the American Law Institute.
Dan is married to Tricia. They have two children, Mary and Mack, and live in Devils Lake, North Dakota.
