Alphonsie Nelson

Alphonsie Nelson is a partner in the Atlanta office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. His practice focuses on insurance defense and medical malpractice in the representation of individuals and corporations on behalf of insurance carriers, physicians, healthcare providers including acute-care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and residential care facilities. A major component of his practice includes defending toxic tort claims, large loss property and casualty claims; catastrophic motor vehicle collision claims and wrongful death matters. Mr. Nelson is an experienced trial lawyer defending claims from inception of matter through trial and post-trial in the representation of clients in state and federal courts, in arbitration, appeals, mediation, and in administrative hearings for over 18 years.
Mr. Nelson’s practice involves assessing the value of complex, high exposure litigation cases and negotiating settlement agreements. In this capacity, he evaluates and assesses risk, and develops and implements risk mitigation programs.
Prior to joining QPWB, he was a partner with a civil litigation law firm in Santa Ana, California where he practiced for 14 years; with extensive experience performing in first-chair jury trials, his practice focused on the defense of privately held and publicly traded corporations; public institutions and agencies; healthcare providers, hospitals, nurse staffing and home health agencies; skilled nursing and assisted living facilities; schools and school districts. His practice encompassed medical malpractice, medical record review, HIPAA compliance, Medicare Secondary Payer Act compliance, personal injury, premises liability, and toxic torts.
Previously, at a Glendale, California law office, he was associate managing attorney to Nationwide Insurance Company staff counsel, defending individual and commercial claims including motor vehicle, premises and product liability, federal ADA claims, and subrogation. He was a trial attorney for a law office in Anaheim, California representing Kemper Insurance in civil lawsuits and subrogation claims. He commenced his legal career in 2001 as deputy public defender for the Orange County Public Defender in Santa Ana, California defending juvenile misdemeanors and probation hearings through trial.
For over five years, Mr. Nelson served as an adjunct professor at Santa Ana College, where he taught ABA-approved courses within the business division of the paralegal program; he also lectured in the areas of labor law and elder law.
Mr. Nelson received his Juris Doctor from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 2001 and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California Irvine in 1998.
He is licensed to practice law in Georgia, California and Colorado and is admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth District; and the U.S. Tax Court. He is also a member of American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and is a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA).
Mr. Nelson served as a board member of The Whole Child, the 62-year-old non-profit organization provides mental health, housing, parent enrichment and nutrition services to underserved families in Southeastern Los Angeles County.
