Member Bio
Patrick serves as the Regional Managing Partner for the San Diego office of Wilson Elser and specializes in defending Aviation matters. Patrick’s practice focuses on the defense of helicopter operators, major airlines, and related entities in complex aviation cases. Patrick’s practice also includes the defense of Ambulatory Surgery Centers and health care professionals in malpractice and licensing claims; as well as the defending complex product liability claims.
Patrick has successfully tried multiple cases to jury verdict and has also experience in defending appellate matters, having successfully handled appeals in the California State Courts of Appeal, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal Circuit; he currently has three published decisions spanning State and Federal Courts of appeal.
Patrick is an active member of the legal community, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel; he was the 2018 President of the San Diego Defense Lawyers Association; and is a past-chair of the San Diego County Bar Legal Ethics Committee. Patrick frequently speaks to professional groups on issues of legal ethics.
Patrick’s ability to recognize issues quickly and develop a strategy is a great asset in handling complex technical aviation cases, some stemming from high-profile air disasters in which hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake. His experience in e-discovery issues is particularly valuable when representing airlines, product manufacturers and general aviation entities in claims and litigation, including insurance, reinsurance and subrogation. Patrick's representative experience includes defending a major airline in a claimed brain damage case; defense of tour helicopter operators in wrongful death cases stemming from crashes; defending military contractors in a fatal helicopter accident; as well as a variety of general liability claims involving national air carriers.
