Jill Hutchison is an experienced civil litigator with a record of effectively managing complex matters through goal-oriented litigation, discreet investigations, and compliance counseling. She is a trusted adviser to private companies and public officials, helping guide clients through fast-moving and sensitive matters. She previously served as Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer in the Office of the Illinois Governor.
She has represented clients ranging from small business owners to Fortune 50 companies before state and federal courts and arbitration panels. Her broad complex commercial litigation experience includes matters involving fraud, breach of contract, disputes among partnerships and joint ventures, corporate governance issues, defamation and business disparagement, false advertising, and unfair competition. She has particular expertise in the defense of class actions and mass torts.
Ms. Hutchison has led litigation on issues of public importance and first impression. As lead counsel for an association of more than 130 U.S. and Canadian cities in the interstate water rights case In re Waukesha Diversion, she argued before the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Council and regularly briefed and counseled the association and mayors of member cities on related strategic issues.
She regularly leads internal investigations and provides guidance on compliance programs and policies in both the public and private sectors. She has conducted internal investigations involving compliance with state procurement and government contracting regulations, financial disclosures, product defects, sexual harassment, and other employment issues. Her proactive compliance counseling experience includes advising a public company on an internal restructuring and suite of policy revisions to strengthen its compliance program, providing employee training programs, and developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the laws governing public officials, state employees, and those doing business with the State of Illinois.
