Member Bio
Jill Sarnoff Riola is Chair of the Carlton Fields Jorden Burt Firmwide Intellectual Property Practice Group. She is Board Certified in Intellectual Property Law by The Florida Bar.

She specializes in U.S. and international intellectual property litigation and transactions, with particular expertise in complex intellectual property transfer and ownership matters, including research and development projects, joint venture agreements, merger and acquisition deals, and incubator technology licensing.

Previously in-house counsel with Apple Computer, Inc. and Carter-Wallace, Inc., she uses that experience to work closely with her clients to understand a particular project in the context of their business plans and goals. That understanding also enables her to best assist them in developing appropriate short and long term intellectual property strategies, including development, protection, transfer or acquisition, and monetization of domestic and international intellectual property portfolios.

An experienced intellectual property litigation mediator, Ms. Riola is a member of the International Trademark Association Panel of Neutrals, the National Arbitration Forum PDDRP and RRDRP Panels, and the panel of certified mediators for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

A gradulate of the University of Rochester and the New York University Scholl of Law, Ms. Riola is admitted to the Bars of FL, CA, and NY.

Firm Information
Carlton Fields Jorden Burt is one of the premier law firms in the Southeast, with a quickly growing national presence. With offices throughout Florida, Atlanta, DC, NYC, Hartford, and LA, CFJB serves business clients in key industries across the country and around the globe. Through our core practices, we help our clients grow their businesses and protect their vital interests.

Our national and international litigation teams are well equipped to handle the most complex business trials, arbitrations, and appeals. We have developed especially deep experience in the defense of class actions and mass actions, white collar representation, high-stakes business litigation, and government investigations. We have tried more than 1,500 cases to judgment or verdict and defended several hundred class actions across the country. We are one of only a handful of firms that have actually tried major class action cases. In the life insurance and financial product liability areas, alone, our financial services industry attorneys have handled more than 300 class actions.

The cases we handle cut across every subject area, including consumer and business fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practice Act enforcement, contracts, shareholder disputes, antitrust, insurance, securities, products liability, construction, real estate, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, labor and employment, intellectual property, health care, telecommunications, energy, constitutional claims, international and domestic arbitration, and federal and state governmental disputes.

Our firm also advises clients on sophisticated business transactions across a range of issues and industries. With a strong presence in key international markets such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., and Miami, we offer focused guidance on domestic and international matters and handle a wide variety of transactions for clients throughout the country and internationally. We counsel them on matters related to mergers and acquisitions, securities, tax planning, and ERISA, and provide state regulatory counseling to clients in the life insurance and financial services sectors, the energy sector, and other key industries.

We also cater to high-growth clients, including technology-based companies, advising them on capital formation, debt financing, corporate governance and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, securities compliance and disclosures, tax planning, and cyber-security concerns. Additionally, we offer our business clients the guidance they need to identify and protect their tangible and intangible assets, including intellectual property, and to manage their immigration and labor and employment issues. We also handle all phases of real property site acquisition and disposition, financing, permitting, and development.

Our government consultants have extensive expertise dealing with federal and state regulators, legislative bodies, and executive agencies on a wide range of issues, including insurance and tort reform, health care, financial regulation, government investigations, and enforcement actions.
