Ms. Leatherwood graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. degree, double majoring in journalism & mass communications and sociology. In 2012, she earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was the recipient of various honors and awards, including the CALI (American Jurisprudence) Award, and served as Senior Articles Editor of the American Bar Association Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal. She also served as co-chair of Alumni Relations for the law school's Ambassador program.

Ms. Leatherwood practices primarily in the fields of construction defect litigation, products liability and insurance defense. She has defended complex civil cases at all stages of litigation, representing local, regional and national clients including corporations, general contractors, product suppliers and manufacturers, design professionals, and other trades. While in law school, Ms. Leatherwood clerked at the Office of the Attorney General of South Carolina in the Civil & Securities Regulation Division, where she assisted in investigation of numerous state securities fraud cases as well as antitrust and consumer law violations. She also conducted research for published law professors in the areas of transnational law, conflict of laws, and tax court procedure.

Ms. Leatherwood currently serves on the DRI Board of Directors as a National Director and is also a member of the Product Liability Steering Committee as Vice-Chair of Online Communities.
Immediately prior, she served as the the Chair of the DRI Young Lawyers Committee and also served as the SC State Membership Chair for DRI for several years. Recently, Ms. Leatherwood has been also appointed to the Social Inflation Task Force within the DRI Center for Law and Public Policy. Ms. Leatherwood is also the Vice Chair of DRI Cares.

In addition to her practice, Ms. Leatherwood enjoys equestrian sports, travel, working out, and spending time with her two dogs. She is an avid fan of both the North Carolina Tar Heels and the South Carolina Gamecocks, She is also active as a member of the Junior League of Columbia where she serves on its Communications Council and its Placement Committee.
