I practice in the areas of complex business litigation, appeals, products liability, and personal injury defense.

In my appellate practice, I have submitted briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and North Carolina’s state appellate courts. I have argued and prevailed in the North Carolina Supreme Court. I also have trial court experience in the North Carolina Superior Courts, the North Carolina Business Court, as well as the federal district courts of North Carolina and other states.

I have worked on a wide variety of matters, including contract disputes, trade secret disputes, unfair business practice allegations, departing employee disputes involving restrictive covenants and confidentiality agreements, products liability claims, wrongful death claims, construction defect claims, and constitutional claims. I have represented clients as diverse as international corporations, small businesses, individuals, public entities, and public officials.

Mr. Scoggan joined the firm in September 2014 after serving as a law clerk to the Honorable James L. Gale, Special Superior Court Judge for Complex Business Cases, on the North Carolina Business Court. During his clerkship, Mr. Scoggan focused on cases involving antitrust law, securities law, business and shareholder disputes, unfair business practices, intellectual property and software, biotechnology, trade secrets, and significant contract disputes.
