Member Bio
Barry Herrin is an accomplished attorney and business advisor with over 25 years of experience in the legal, health care, insurance, and nonprofit industries. He has significant experience in health care and hospital law and policy, privacy law, and issues affecting tax-exempt organizations, and has a wealth of practical knowledge gained from representing health care providers and others in operational and governance issues, transactional matters, mergers and acquisitions, health information management and medical privacy issues, general federal and state regulatory compliance matters, and the establishment of physician-hospital collaboratives. Barry has represented clients across the United States and has active client relationships throughout the Southeast.

Barry is currently the founder of Herrin Health Law, P.C., a boutique law firm specializing in representing persons and entities in the health care industry. Prior to pursuing his own practice, Barry was a partner for 16 years with a regional law firm with offices in 3 states, in which he was responsible for a variety of sophisticated projects and transactions, and represented providers throughout the entire spectrum of the health care continuum, from individual physician practices to multi-hospital systems. Barry was instrumental in providing outside general counsel services to many hospital systems and was the lead partner on numerous merger, acquisition, and divestiture transactions. Recently, Barry has had significant involvement in managed care contract negotiations, the establishment of accountable care organizations and narrow networks by both physician organizations and hospitals, and assisting with the design and regulatory approval of innovative health care service offerings by integrated health systems to provide direct-contracting solutions for self-insured employers.

In addition to his deep experience in the health care industry, Barry has been involved in board governance and executive leadership for both clients and community-based non-profits. During his career he has established over 25 non-profit corporations, foundations, and tax-exempt public charities. He has served on the executive committee of a national charitable organization administering a federal program budget of over $25 million and deploying over $100 million in assets throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As a professional and community volunteer, he has served on organizational boards of directors for healthcare executives, health information management professionals, and health information technology professionals, and has participated as a faculty member of numerous programs and symposia around the country.

Barry is an Eagle Scout and is retired from the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary after 25 years of service, during which time he was the chief judge advocate for the organization. He currently volunteers his time to the Boy Scouts of America as a leader in his sons’ troop and pack. For his good works and community service, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 2012.
